Core Services
Community Advocacy - CPA (NS) assists communities to identify, reduce and eliminate barriers to full community participation and serves as a leader in the area of education and awareness in the prevention of spinal cord injuries.
Rehabilitation Counselling - CPA (NS) provides professional counselling services to assist individuals in their return to an independent life in the community. We offer continuous support, information, community links and follow-up. The Community Client Services Counsellors work closely with individuals to examine the key components of quality of life, defined as an objective and subjective measure of the happiness of an individual on a holistic basis. The factors affecting holistic quality of life are: Education, Accommodation, Recreation, Psychological / Social, Transportation, Financial, Independent Living, Equipment / Supplies, Sexuality and HealthEmployment.
Peer Support - CPA (NS) offers "someone who has been there" who can act as a mentor and role model to encourage and sustain clients through the challenges they face. We are committed to providing peer support to clients and members as well as their families. The Peer Program engages peers to volunteer their time with the Association and these volunteers may be asked to provide support to another person with a spinal cord injury. Others can volunteer in other aspects of the Association that include support for the the Association web site and its database of accessible facilities in Nova Scotia. The Regional Approach to Supports and Solutions Program (RASSP) allows peer volunteers to opportunity to speak in community settings.
Information Services - CPA (NS) provides comprehensive and relevant information for clients, their families, employers, community agencies, and governments. The communications plan of the Association recognizes there are specific publics who can, and do benefit from the information of the Association. This group specifically, but not exclusively, includes: Persons With Spinal Cord Injuries and their families, Allied Health Professionals, Governments and Volunteers.
Case Management/Service Coordination - These services deliver overall coordination during the rehabilitation process, from injury through community integration.
Vocational/Employment Services - CPA (NS) assist individuals in identifying vocational alternatives and obtaining employment consistent with their values, skills, abilities and interests. Employers can also use this service to evaluate work-site accessibility and job accommodation.
