The annual CHAIR-LEADERS “Enabling Accessibility” Event (June 21 - 25, 2010)

The annual CHAIR-LEADERS “Enabling Accessibility” Event (June 21 - 25, 2010)

The annual CHAIR-LEADERS “Enabling Accessibility” Event, presented by the Canadian Paraplegic Association (Nova Scotia), will take place in 5 regions throughout Nova Scotia during the week of June 21, and we would like YOU to be part of it and help support the Canadian Paraplegic Association.
Halifax Regional Municipality – Monday, June 21st
South Shore / Yarmouth County – Tuesday, June 22nd
Colchester County / Cumberland County – Wednesday, June 23rd
Annapolis Valley / Kings County – Thursday, June 24th
Cape Breton Regional Municipality – Thursday, June 24th

The CHAIR-LEADERS event increases awareness of accessibility in Nova Scotia as well as raising essential funds for persons with spinal cord injuries and mobility issues.

WHAT IS REQUIRED: Volunteer to spend one day in a wheelchair. Able-bodied individuals will have the opportunity to experience the barriers persons with disabilities face on a daily basis. You can help people with physical disabilities fully participate in our community and reach their full potential while engaging in this unique experience.

HOW: By spending a day in a wheelchair, respected community leaders will be visible and credible advocates for persons with mobility disabilities throughout the province. Your involvement will help shape Nova Scotia’s future in becoming a barrier free province while making our communities more accessible to persons who use mobility aids. Each participant will receive a pledge sheet and commit to collecting $1,000 or more in pledges.

WHY: The campaign hopes to raise awareness of issues surrounding mobility, independence, and self-reliance throughout Nova Scotia. Funds collected during the special event will be used to help the Canadian Paraplegic Association (Nova Scotia) continue to expand services to clients in our communities throughout Nova Scotia.
