AUTUMN GREETINGS!

In 2012, the Canadian Paraplegic Association (Nova Scotia) celebrates 60 years of serving and assisting Nova Scotians with spinal cord injuries and other related physical disabilities to achieve independence, self-reliance and full community participation. We could not have been successful in achieving our mission without your ongoing financial support.

A spinal cord injury can affect anyone at any time and is much more than an injury to the spine. It is life altering. As a result of a spinal cord injury, an individual has to find new ways to function within their community--within your community--and support is needed. A spinal cord injury affects family, friends and the community as a whole.

When an individual in Nova Scotia sustains a spinal cord injury (SCI) they are offered the services and support of the Canadian Paraplegic Association (Nova Scotia). The person with the injury, as well as family and friends, have access to client-centered, strengths-based support through counselling services, information services and community advocacy. In addition, our Peer Program allows us to offer persons with SCI and other related physical disabilities peer support, wheelchair recreation opportunities, specific peer matches, information sessions and eventually, volunteer opportunities.

In terms of overall community service, the Canadian Paraplegic Association (Nova Scotia) will continue to offer services to more and more Nova Scotian’s as they begin to cope with age related mobility disabilities. We will be there to provide the information and support they need in their homes and communities. We work in your community to break down physical and systemic barriers, while increasing the level of disability support and awareness for all. Our services help persons with SCI and other related physical disabilities to overcome obstacles by building on personal strength and capacity, and that in turn strengthens communities.

At the Canadian Paraplegic Association (Nova Scotia), we are aware that the current economy has affected all of us in one way or another. Unfortunately, it is often during times like these that the needs in your community are the greatest. We are asking you to support the work of the Association through your financial contribution. This will allow us to continue our essential services for Nova Scotian’s with spinal cord injury and other related physical disabilities.

Sincere Regards,

Nancy Beaton RSW
